"Making Musical Memories" -10.15.16

Updated: Jan 11, 2021

From 1975 on, our family has always been musical. I was a high school choral music teacher, my husband played euphonium in the church orchestra (and still does), and we put ourselves through college playing in a band that performed weekends at corporate parties, Christmas events, and country clubs. When our first child, Emily, was born in 1980, we knew we had a musical "diva" in our midst. "Watch me dance" and "listen to me sing this song" were frequent conversations we had. Fast forward to 2016 and you'll find a grown-up Broadway performer and her Mother recording a wonderful Christmas album complete with full orchestrations by Mom and others, original songs by Emily and Patti, and arrangements of well-loved secular and sacred songs. This project was recorded with 35 musicians in about 16 days in New York City. I can't tell you how proud we are of this undertaking. I only cried twice when I heard the final mix. The joy that I feel when getting to make music with our daughter, Emily Drennan Lopez, is beyond measure. We were able to share several concerts this season in the Norman and Oklahoma City area and have other opportunities we are working on involving symphony shows.
